Lying somewhere between the realms of doom metal, shoegaze, grunge and stoner rock, Skullcave are rapidly earning recognition as innovators in the Australian metal scene. Shortly after forming in 2014, the Perth three-piece’s 2015 self-titled EP began turning the collective heads of the nation thanks to a strong grasp of guitar tone, flowing liquid-like transitions and brooding mood. It wasn’t long after this release that positive critical response began pouring in, earning the band attention and respect amongst Australian metal enthusiasts and nationwide media. Coverage began stemming in from the likes of Tone Deaf and The Music, along with radio play bringing the band across the country to stations such as Triple RRR, FBI Radio, RTRfm, 4ZZZ, Edge Radio and more. Hurtling into the current day, Skullcave have found themselves sharing the stage with several titans of the modern metal scene. International heavyweights such as High On Fire, Conan, Weedeater, Windhand, Baroness, Cough and Acid King along with locals such as Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, Karnivool, We Lost The Sea and Serious Beak are just a handful of bands who the Perth act have enjoyed performing with. Behind the scenes, the band has also developed connections with many of the industry’s finest sound technicians, working with the likes of Adam Round (live sound for Tame Impala) for recording, Jay Brandner (Pond, Taku, Draft) for live sound and Brad Boatright (Harms Way, Old Man Gloom, Nails) for mastering.
