Skej was born in London under candlelight. His music and songwriting isn’t about following a fad or doing things to chase a trend. There’s heart, soul and the sort of attention to detail that raises it from hobby to craft. Outside influences have, of course, shaped it as it evolved, but the ethos at its centre is the same now as it was the day he first picked up a guitar: depth, sincerity and the burning desire to tell a story with compelling lyrics and music. But then there are also more ephemeral traits to be found and enjoyed: the hopes and dreams of any man; the mood – high or low – of a lyric; things that provoke thought, feeling, and emotion; the peaks and troughs that compel artists to put pen to paper. It’s precisely this sort of eclecticism and reach that gives texture to his work. So here it is. No frills. No frippery. Just a man dedicated to his craft, making music for himself and its own sake.
