Formed in 2002, Simply Waiting's original line up was Matt Shetler, Justin Smith, Jason Thompson (bass), Josh Guild (Keys), Brandon Guthrie (Drums). The band recorded a two song demo and the EP "Cutting Ties" with this line up. Shortly after recording "Cutting Ties", the band signed with upstart record label Gasoline Records (started by previous employees of Goodlife Records who had a connection to Simply Waiting through Matt, Justin, and Jason's previous band Waking Kills the Dream). Jason parted ways with the band and Eric Dorney joined as the new bass player. Gasoline sent the band into the studio to record their first full length "The Subtle Dynamics Between the Windshield and the Rearview", but the label quickly dissolved leaving Simply Waiting to foot the bill. The band did just that and pressed on, touring the east coast (in a self-booked DIY tour) in support of the album. After several years as the bands rhythmic grounding, Brandon Guthrie parted ways with the band to try out several other projects, ultimately landing firmly with Toads and Mice. Justin Crim took over as drummer for Simply Waiting. More east coast touring racked up 19 states for the band from MO to FL to RI and lots in between. During one such tour the band was introduced via phone to Chicago producer Mark McClusky. The band headed to Chicago and tracked 6 songs. After more shows both local and regional, Justin Crim left the band and eventually pursued a recording degree at Full Sail University in FL.
