Simon Smart-Foster was born in Shoreham-by-sea in sussex England, on december first 1976. He was fostered and later adopted by his parents, becoming the eldest of seven children in a working class Anglo-Irish family. Simon grew up in the hamlet village of Small Dole at the base of the south downs, several miles outside the vibrant city of Brighton. His early influences included artists like Billy Idol, Eddie Cochran, and Elvis Costello, but later became heavily influenced in singer songwriters like Niel Young, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley. Much of his solo acoustic work features a finger picking style typical of folk based guitar playing. Much of the lyrical content on the album Braver Dreams focuses on themes of self discovery, addiction, and personal relationships around family, lovers and friends. Simon now lives with his wife in San Francisco, he is an accomplished cabinet maker and runs his own cabinet shop. Presently he is recording an album of new material with his band LONGBAND and performs live locally and on collage radio in the bay area.
