Growing up in Vienna, Austria, Simon Herzog played eclectic instruments such as the Jew’s harp, harmonium and harpsichord, but soon turned to synthesizers as his main tool of sound design. He is currently attending Columbia University in New York and perpetually failing to balance his academic and musical careers. Always combining and creating genres, he operates somewhere between dubstep, downtempo electronica, house, glitch, and hip-hop. Herzog’s tracks are characterized by their constantly evolving, pristine complexity, combining mellow and heavy elements and harnessing unusual samples such as Gregorian chants or the sounds of a construction site. His productions are complemented by collaborations with talented vocalists and rappers. Herzog’s live sets are innovative and full of energy, driven by the fragility and challenge of rebuilding and remixing complex tracks live. In his DJ sets, Herzog excites crowds with live mashups and an unpredictable music selection. He regularly plays in clubs in Vienna and New York and recently performed for 2,500 aboard the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier.
