Artist
Simon Cummings is an English composer & conductor from Cheltenham, in the Cotswolds. His instrumental compositions incorporate an avant garde language into highly expressive 'dramas in sound', the works often presented as intricate journeys through which mortal concepts are presented allegorically to elaborate transcendent truths. His electronic music draws heavily on noise and ambient traditions, often using field recordings that are then extensively processed and sculpted into new forms. He has self-released two CDs, "Triptych, May/July 2009" and "The Stuff of Memories", released on his own label Interrobang, as well as a pair of digital releases, "the Ceiling stared at me but i beheld only the Stars" and "at the magical hour when is becomes if / desert-tide". Cummings conducts a contemporary music ensemble, also called Interrobang, based in Birmingham, with whom he has directed works by, among others, Ken Hesketh, Paul Dolden, Ryoji Ikeda and Chiyoko Szlavnics.
