Artist
As a songwriter of few words, “Silver Speakers” (that is, Tyrone Warner) forms his lyrics carefully and simply... letting the emotion in his voice and guitar take care of the rest. On old four and eight track home recording units, Warner builds odd and romantic soundtracks that possess a unique, intimate charm. It’s not polished by any means, but merely an honest document crammed with drum machines, keyboards and blistering solos. Warner has been crafting his writing and recording for over a decade, as well as performing in bands from Kingston to Toronto. His newest record, “Streetlights and Stars,” features ten new songs as a murky, radiant ode to life in Woodbine Heights, a neighbourhood in Toronto’s far east. The album marks the first time collaborators have joined Warner in his recording, featuring smoky harmonies from his sister-in-law and piano freestyles from the director of music at his local church. “Streetlights and Stars” is also the first recording Warner has released on his new record label, GravenRecords (gravenrecords.com) co-founded with fellow singer-songwriter Matt McKechnie.
