While independent music was caught within a sea change, Cincinnati, OH was caught up in a surge of immediate punk rock in 2003, a scene facilitated by Cincypunk.org and their DIY ethics helping to keep the Queen City's music scene vital. At the same time, the very definition of punk, notwithstanding the opinions of liberty-spiked yuppie larvae in need of fast-paced polka beats, was stretched to include bands with similar ethos, regardless of the BPM. Silver Bridge Disaster was the progressive rock band among the black t-shirt convention, accepted for their energy and weirdness, much like Talking Heads during CBGBs salad days. Shows with Battlefields, A Voice Like Rhetoric, Riddle Of Steele, Thistle, Blacklight Barbarian, Junior Revolution and LostHandsFoundFingers helped solidify Silver Bridge Disaster's wide-range, if odd appeal within punk-metal, hard rock, and stoner-rock circles. The band enlisted John Curley, former bassist of heroes The Afghan Whigs to help produce and record their debut album "Death Of A Song" (2006, And Recordings). John's production helped to translate the two-sided nature of the band, capturing the intensity as well as the subtle melodies. The band then submitted their take on "Gentlemen," an Afghan Whigs staple, for the Summers Kiss Records tribute. The track became available as a free download from the Summers Kiss website.
