Artist
Silicon Drum is the work of Oxford based musician John Blanchard. He has been making tunes since the early 1990s - many different flavours; electronic, techno, dnb, house and more. But the main constant throughout the years has been reggae and dub - mostly digital but more often now with a live sound. Inspired by early listens to the likes of Sound Iration and Alpha and Omega, many visits to Jah Shaka and Disciples sound systems followed by full immersion into the the music of Lee Perry and King Tubby he took to creating his own music. Silicon Drum has released the Pure Dub EP under the Dub Generator monicker (1992); had tracks on two planet Dub Compilations (Dubkiss and Zion Dub) as Silicon Drum (played by John Peel on Radio 1); numerous techno releases); just finished an album based on the field recordings of musicians in Gabon - to be released under the name 'People'; as well as dark electronica releases under the name 'Silver Filter', ambient/minimalist music under John Blanchard and house music as Country Gents. Silicon Drum's website includes over 100 tracks that you can download in all genres, its own radio station and previews of the latest album 'Gabon'. http://www.silicondrum.com User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
