Sign of Thyme is a musical group born in 2005 in Amman, Jordan. While it is redundant to call the music they play fusion since most music in the world nowadays consists of some kind of fusion, Sign of Thyme plays its unique type of fusion that combines classical Arabic music with jazz, funk and many different musical sounds from all over the world. They play original music as well as their own unique rearrangements of jazz standards and Arabic classics from the likes of Egyptian musicians Mohammad Abdul Wahab and Riyadh al-Sunbati. The band released two albums, "Like All People" and "Zad", and is currently recording their third. About the musicians: Yacoub Abu Ghosh, Bass Guitar Sign of Thyme's co-founder, Yacoub is a well established and respected musician and bass guitarist in Jordan and regionally, he is also one of the few who are dedicated to this field with close to 14 years of experience, he performed with many different musical outfits such as Music Matbakh, RUM Tareq Al Nasser and Black Iris. He studied Law at the University of Jordan & worked as a journalist for the Jordan Times daily and other publications such as JO magazine before becoming a full time musician. Ahmad Barakat, Oud Another co-founder of the group, Ahmad is a true prodigy with his instrument, with excellent improvisational skills and vast theoretical and practical knowledge even at his fairly young age.
