Si-Hyun Yi (b. 1970) is a composer from South Korea. She was the 2005 Aberdeen Prize winner, a 5000 UK pounds commission to write a full piece for orchestra to be premiered by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. In December 2010, the Irish Time critic Michael Dervan wrote "Korean composer Si-Hyun Yi’s The Magic Fiddle in the Desert(inspired by the film The Story of the Weeping Camel) has a narrative quality that’s filmic, dreamy, sometimes almost cartoonish in colouring."
