Shotgun Diplomacy began as a high school ska band; just a thought in the heads of young guitarist John Gray Shermyen and aspiring bassist Keenan Sieg back in late 2006. As they kicked ideas around, they recruited their friend, Blake Jones, to play drums for the non-existent band. To kick things off, they decided they'd better write some songs. Somehow they managed to do so without any horn players. Luckily, they discovered that their new friend Tim Pommett could play trumpet! Imagine their excitement! In all honesty, the songs were awful, but over the next year their songs grew in both harmony and complexity, and quickly became very impressive for a high school ska band. As this was happening, their band also grew in numbers. They were joined by tenor sax player Matt Chrzanowski as well as alto sax player Russel Wilder. With the additions, they went from a mediocre "ska" band with one horn and a less than average stage presence to a popular, high energy local band. The next few months presented some problems. Blake and Matt needed to leave for college, so the band brought in their new acquaintance, Rocco Yeingst, to play drums, as well as a young lad by the name of Chris Brown to play baritone sax and fill the void left by Matt. Somewhere in this hectic lineup change they find trombone player Jason Kotlarski and stick him into their phenomenal horn section.
