Shimmy Rivers and and Canal formed in a rush with five people, none of whom are still members or are in fact known to any of the current line up. Shimmy Rivers and and Canal started in error and continued thereafter. As the unformed band disbanded further, a drunken barmaid put a CD in the post which had nothing to do with Shimmy Rivers and and Canal, but for some reason had their name on it. Ed Baxter, head of Resonance FM took to the sound of that CD like a duck to whatever, and spectacularly asked to release it, just so he could hand out copies to anyone he liked. He also asked if Shimmy would play at the Birthday Resonancy Gala in the Conway Hall. Someone else found Ed's reply and, seeing an opportunity, answered positively. A band was assembled sharpish and played that bash, convincing sundry bystanders that what they were witnessing was 'Shimmy Rivers and and Canal'. From then on that was that. Shimmy Rivers proceeded with a regular assault on Resonance FM with ‘Daddy Said So Land’, which was broadcast for months, and got plenty of seriously good bands to play live on the radio, only to be talked over by dimwits. Shimmy Rivers and and Canal finger lots of pies. Between them they run/ ran/ ruin the ‘Daddy Said So Land’ radio show, the Chubby Nest record label, and the Random Colours recording studio.
