Sherilyn Fenn is a Belgrade band formed in January 1996 by Ivan Miljojković (vocals-guitar), and Bogdan Ostojić (drums). In September 1996 the band was joined by Milan Bogdanović (vocals-guitar) and Stefan Sladić (bass guitar) and in December that year Bogdan Bogdanović replaced Ostojić on the drums. The beginnings were marked by strong influences of early 80s New York new wave, Sonic Youth primarily. Other influences included such bands as Joy Division and Velvet Underground. All this resulted in frequent experimenting with different guitar tunings and using spoken word vocals rather than traditional singing. That changed around 1998, as the band developed searching for its own sound, using standard tunings, as well as more traditional singing (now mostly in English). Sherilyn Fenn recorded their first studio EP “Sotona Je Velik” in January 1997 (produced by Siniša Radović). In 1998 the band started their coop with Miroslav Cvetković Cvele from “Bajaga i Instruktori”, who signed the production of sound on their first ever hit single “Glas Iz Magle”, released the same year as a music video (signed by the renowned TV director Slavoljub Živanović Zli) that frequently aired on all relevant TV stations and performed well on all charts in Yugoslavia (Serbia&Montenegro).
