Artist
Shelton Powe was born to a musical family in Charlotte, N.C., in 1957. He didn't fully embrace musicianship, however, until after the deaths of his mother and father in the late 1980s. Powe picked up the guitar as a tribute to his mother, and immersed himself in old-time blues and gospel in the tradition that he remembered from his childhood. Powe became an active member of the Atlanta, Ga. blues scene before returning to Charlotte, N.C., where he current lives. Powe is a Music Maker Relief Foundation artist and currently plays at venues throughout North Carolina and beyond. His newest release, "Carolina Blues and Gospel" was released in March 2012.
