Artist
There are multiple artists who have recorded under the name Shelley. The first was a British indie pop band in the early 1990s which released a single and was a part of compilations released on the internationally beloved UK label Sarah Records. Their releases helped round out the label's output, as the goal of the label was to release exactly 100 EP records, the Shelley record "Reproduction Is Pollution" being release number 98. They featured on the label's compilation entitled "Battery Point" as well, one of the many compilations put out named after locales from the surrounding area. The sound of the group was of the usual Sarah fare, dreamy male/female vocals and lighthearted, sometimes melancholy music, usually featuring a jangly guitar sound or prominent treble-laden keyboard parts. After this release, they would continue their career under the name Orlando until the year 2000, becoming a cornerstone act in the minor 90s club and musical movement of "romantic modernism", or "romo". The second group is a group from the US: The first single from Shelley & Cal’s much-anticipated release on 44-4 Records is the elegantly arranged and written "Maybe” which speaks to the hopes, yearnings and questioning that every human heart experiences. The video for “Maybe” (which was produced by Brandon Crouch and directed by Matt Floryan) beautifully illustrates Shelley & Cal’s relationship as artists and family and adds a compelling visual to the already enigmatic and uplifting song.
