Shape of the Sun, the new indie-rock project from songwriter Nate Linek, released its debut EP in early 2015. Just like its namesake, the one-man band's energy is derived from fusion—not of hydrogen and helium, but of an amazing melodic sense fused to a strong backing rhythm. Melody is where Linek shines, drawing on his past in melodic pop and punk bands. Pop ... rock ... indie ... these are all tags and genres that might help define these songs, but they're not weighed down by any of the attendant clichés and expectations. To really understand Shape of the Sun, you’ll have to look—and listen—much deeper; you’ll have to delve to the core. And at that core are just damn good songs.
