Artist
Shanna Kiel, part riot-girl punk and part rock goddess. Hailing from the Midwest, St. Louis to be exact, and out of the burgeoning rock scene of the Midwest early rock scene centered on Chicago favorites, Local H. Kiel released a solo record entitled “Orphan” in 2006 on Thick Records to great reviews comparing it to the genius of Courtney Love and Hole. Kiel currently fronts the band Black Fur out of LA with Stephanie Sandman on bass, a past band mate in the short-lived punk-rock band, Sibylline (also from LA). Kiel formed Sullen in her early 20’s with Justin Slazinik, a childhood friend. From an early age they spent every day together, they learned how to play guitar together, they wrote their first songs together and they formed their first band together. Utilizing and unconventional twin guitar approach, Sullen produced a wall of sound similar to protégé’s Local H, with the added twist of a female vocalist for added range and flexibility. Their debut “Paint the Moon” was put out by Chicago’s seminal indie label, Thick Records. The band was set to put out another full length by 2006, but inner tensions caused a split, with each band member taking their respective songs to their own projects. Slazinik currently fronts The Axis Club ("The Axis Club" was also the working title for Sullen's second disc), out of LA as well. Their s/t debut should be released sometime in mid 2007.
