Shaed (stylized SHAED, pronounced "shade") is an American indie pop trio based in Washington, D.C. The group was formed in 2011 and features Chelsea Lee as the lead vocalist, while both Max and Spencer Ernst contributes on keyboards, drums, guitars, and vocals. The Ernst twins, Max and Spencer, grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, and displayed a passion for music from an early age. They formed a rock band called Upslide during middle school and performed locally in the Washington, D.C., area for several years. Their talent attracted the attention of Magus Entertainment, a New York-based management company, who secured them a publishing deal with Cherry Lane Music. While attending Gonzaga College High School, they formed a pop duo called Trust Fall and began touring in different parts of the country. It was during a performance at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., in 2007 that they met Chelsea Lee, who would become an integral part of the group. In 2009, Chelsea signed as a solo artist with Atlantic Records, and in the same year, Max came out as gay to his brother, marking a significant personal milestone. Chelsea and Spencer initiated a romantic relationship in 2010. After completing high school, the Ernst twins deferred college to pursue a record deal with Epic Records, which ultimately fell through. Subsequently, they both enrolled at the University of Maryland. During their college years, they formed a folk rock duo called The Walking Sticks and released their debut EP
