"Shades Of is Joshua Thomas, a musician from Northern Kentucky. Joshua has a laundry list of projects under his belt including When Our Hands Collided, You Smiled, The Ellipsis Ensemble and he also plays bass in Memories In Amber. Over the years, especially recently, his interests in writing music have dabbled more in post-rock/ ambient material, whereas in the early days of The Ellipsis Ensemble (Ellipsis Project then) the music sounded like the shittiest Mars Volta impression a person could barely muster. He's writing this bio, so he knows what's what. By the by, writing in third person will never feel right. On with the bio. In early 2006, Joshua spent a good deal of time with his friend (now housemate) Kyle Randall. They would get together in an apartment complex's Fitness Room after the place had closed and record improvisations. There is a vast library of music on both of their computers, and amongst the hours of horrible there is a tiny gem or two. Either way, that helped to pique Joshua's interest in not only 'jamming' but writing and recording music as well. Later the following year, Kyle moved to Lexington, and the two would only improv when there were rare visits. During this time The Ellipsis Project was born. Joshua wanted to write music, and record it as a means to document where he was musically at the time.
