Senani is an Australian based Rnb/soul singer/songwriter and has just recently released 'Voodoo Girl', the first song from her upcoming new album (Infinity). Senani wrote the song after hearing the name of a horse (Voodoo Girl) who won a race broadcasted on a Sydney radio station in the early months of 2009. The song tells the story of spellbound love. The music is hypnotic, incorporating a haunting groove and melodies based on tabla, percussion, strings and a Grand Piano. The vocals accentuate the effect. Senani has a passion for using instruments from her ethnic background. She was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and when three years old moved to Newcastle, Australia with her parents and two sisters. Her mother, Jeevarani, was a well known actress/singer/dancer in Sri Lanka in the 1960's and 70's and exposed Senani and her sisters to the sounds of traditional South Asian/Indian music from a young age. The music is highly Rhythmic and intricate with melodies and scales to compliment. Senani was also exposed to music from the Motown era, listening, singing and dancing to artists such as Lionel Ritche, Boney M, The Pointer Sisters, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, The Jacksons and George Benson during her childhood. She grew up on 70's/80's disco and soul and this shaped her style as a singer and performer. Her music mentor is Michael Jackson.
