Self-medication is comprised of john w. duncan the iv and Christopher Patrick Taylor. They utilize an array of guitars, computers, basses, instruments from the east, and anything that could modify or produce an auditory signal. The project began in early 2006 with several jam sessions with jwd and CPT. As the pair acquired a wide array of apparatuses, the project grew and structure was imposed. A key aspect of the project is the method. The self-medication project has grown organically over the years, many early works of the duo were the product of john’s songwriting genius with CPT slathering the sound with a mixture of mere flourishes. The influences on the music are apparent (Sigur Rós, Brian Eno and Radiohead, to name three) but the core of the project is the drive to experiment - with the sound and themselves.
