Second Thought could refer to more than one artist. 1. Second Thought is the musical voice and brainchild of Ross Baker. Although begun as far back as 1999, Second Thought properly entered the world in 2004 with his debut album Purlieu. Defining Baker's idea of music as vision, it left listeners feeling lost in a strange, cold, desolate countryside setting, with its distant piano melodies, strange background noises and an array of found sounds, including omnipresent rooks. The album picked up positive reviews from all corners, including a spot in renowned magazine The Wire, culminating in 'Parin Onia' being spun by none other than The Future Sound of London during a slot on BBC Six Music's SixMix show. Three years later, the follow-up, Vacuum Road Songs, was unleashed on fledgling Leeds label Jerky Oats. Replacing the amorphous soundscapes of its predecessor with breakbeats, glitches and insistent techno rhythms, Vacuum Road Songs was the city to Purlieu's fields, a journey following the listener from the borderline of the city to its huge, dominating centre, passing all points of human life on the way. Further radio play came with the record, and all reviews suggested the album was a successful follow-up to the debut. 2010 saw Second Thought re-emerge from a self-imposed 'musical exile', with several releases that formed a run bracketed 'the experimental series', each taking a new approach to composition and/or production, and released as either free downloads or small D
