The sound of Sealions, as it floats genre lines between dance and rock almost effortlessly, is a bit of an anomaly in the Atlanta indie music scene. The music of Sealions draws inspiration from the fuzzy guitars of 90’s West Coast alternative, the bubbly synthesizers of English new wave and French house, and the vocal harmonies of 70’s American super-pop groups. And all of this can be heard in multitudes on the group’s first LP, Strange Veins. Sealions is the ultimate destination of a musical journey began by Jason Travis and Joey Patino when they were teenagers. Having cut their teeth on numerous projects throughout high-school and college, Travis and Patino eventually decided to isolate themselves and take their sound further than the confines of previous lineups. To prepare for their metamorphosis, Travis set to work on honing his melodic and songwriting capabilities, while Patino immersed himself in the study of synthesizers and electronic sound production. The pair emerged some time later with a renewed sense of passion for their music and quickly garnered local attention. Now Sealions is looking to stretch beyond Atlanta and into the ears of the rest of the world. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
