Scissor Sisters is an American pop rock band formed in 2000 in New York City. The group’s core members are Jake Shears (vocals), Babydaddy (various instruments), and Del Marquis (guitar and bass). Former members include Ana Matronic (vocals) and Paddy Boom (drums). The band’s music incorporates elements of pop rock, glam rock, nu-disco, and electroclash. The name “Scissor Sisters” was derived from a slang term referencing tribadism. The band first gained attention with a disco-oriented cover of “Comfortably Numb,” originally by Pink Floyd, which became popular in dance clubs and achieved chart success in the United Kingdom. Their self-titled debut album “Scissor Sisters” (2004) reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and became the best-selling album in the UK that year. It was later certified nine-times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. The album produced several UK top 20 singles, including “Take Your Mama,” “Laura,” “Mary,” and “Filthy/Gorgeous,” the latter also reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Despite this success abroad, the album achieved more limited commercial results in the United States. The second studio album, “Ta-Dah” (2006), also reached number one in the UK and included the single “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’,” which became the band’s first UK number one single and their most commercially successful track.
