Schavot, meaning "scaffold" in Dutch, is a black metal solo project from Venray, Limburg, Netherlands, founded in 2021 by multi-instrumentalist Floris Velthuis. Born out of a wave of nostalgia for the Scandinavian second-wave black metal of the 1990s, Schavot emerged during the COVID-19 lockdowns when Floris, already active in bands like Asgrauw, Meslamtaea, and Sagenland, found time to channel his love for the genre’s raw, melodic roots. Inspired by the atmospheric and aggressive sounds of bands like Emperor, Ulver, Satyricon, and Obtained Enslavement, Floris created Schavot as a one-man project to craft uncompromising black metal steeped in Dutch folklore and history. The project is part of the Dutch Zwotte Kring (Black Circle), a collective of like-minded black metal acts, including Asgrauw and Hellevaerder.
