Schattenmusik is an experiment in non-conventional music, and to attempt a more precise definition than that would defeat the very purpose of the project. While the sound is formally defined by such influences as musique concrete, post rock, and even prog rock, the only rule adhered to is that of ensuring that no reference is obvious, cliched, or comfortable.
