Scarce is an alternative rock band from New England, United States, originally from Providence, RI, later based in Boston, MA. They were active from 1993 to 1997 and reformed in 2008. Formed by Chick Graning (vocals, guitar), Joyce Raskin (bass, vocals) and Jud Ehrbar (drums), the trio soon caused a major label bidding war. Their Red EP was distributed worldwide, landing in the U.K. charts, with songs like All Sideways and Days Like This. Scarce toured America, Europe, England and Canada with much acclaim for their live shows. Début album, Deadsexy, was recorded with new drummer Mike Levesque and set for release in June in the United Kingdom and Europe, with a U.S. release scheduled for a few months later. In June 1995, however, following a support tour with Hole in Europe and on the verge of seriously breaking it, Chick Graning suffered a brain hemorrhage and lapsed into a coma for several weeks, with doctors giving him a 10 percent chance of survival. Graning recovered spectacularly quickly and, astonishingly, Scarce decided to keep going as a band. Graning had learn to speak and walk again, then relearn all his guitar parts and vocals from scratch. The U.S. release of their album was re-scheduled for 1996.
