Saian Aqmolda (Russian: Саян Акмолда; born in 1974) is a dombra and kobyz player from Kazakhstan. He follows in the line of Zhappas Kalambaev who, like him, comes from the region of Karatau. He started playing the dombra at the age of 5 and touched a kobyz for the first time at the age of 17. His path appeared to him in a series of dreams following which he acquired a kobyz. After receiving training from local masters, he went to study at the national conservatory and quickly earned a reputation as the most talented kobyz player of his generation. Besides Zhappas Kalambaev –whom he only heard from recordings – he considers Smagul Umbetbaev as his master.
