Sawi Lieu may not be one of Indonesia’s most well-known musicians, he’s beginning to get credit for being one of its more under-appreciated. His unique brand of cosmic electro experimentation pushes the boundaries of conventional club music into a stratosphere of hypnotic moods and movements. If this can be considered a kind of pseudo-disco, then it is one that only substance-worshiping futurists could understand enough to dance to. In his first major release (previous recordings have mostly been self-released CD-Rs and cassette tapes), Sawi Lieu molds all of his soundscapes into a fulfilling whole. Released by Constellation Tatsu, "Pasaraya" mingles processed samples, motorik beats, 80s rhythms, and 90s ambient house rather ambitiously.
