Saw Fist Tree cull songs of Sophistry. David Tarbell, Matt Walker, and Peterson Goodwyn grew up in separate corners of America before converging in the Amish-affiliated town of Wooster, OH. A one-off jam on The Shagg’s “Philosophy of the World” sewed the seed that has become Saw Fist Tree. The trio had four years to meditate on that jam before reconvening last winter. In the cold and mildly hostile environment of an abandoned Cincinnati auto-shop they recorded their tunes 24/7 for a week. Saw Fist Tree relocated to the more temperate climate of Milwaukee for a pleasant but sleepless week in the midst of the summer’s dog days. The only resistance the men met in this new environment was a brief but unpleasant incident with an unforgiving mob of mosquitoes encountered during some spontaneous field recording late one night. Supplementary work conducted in a humble electronic music studio on the lower level of a Kentucky university rounded off the geographical range of Saw Fist Tree. Endless mixing and tampering has occurred at all points, times, and temperatures in between. We hope you enjoy the fruits of the single Shagg’s seed.
