SANCTO IANNE, (late latin world of Saint John) born during the summer of 1995 in SAN GIOVANNI di CEPPALONI (BN), inland territory between Rome and Naples known as “Sannio” near Benevento, expresses the energy of rock, the sophistication of jazz and the truth-telling directness of folk music creating an original neoroots sound. Sancto Ianne has won prestigious awards : 2001 - EUROPEAN FOLKONTEST / CASALE MONFERRATO (AL) (the most important award for italian folk music bands) 2001 - TROPHEE DAGAN CELTIC CIDER / FESTIVAL INTERCELTIQUE de LORIENT (FRANCE) 2005 - VOCI PER LA LIBERTA’,UNA CANZONE PER AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL / VILLADOSE (RO) The band has recorded three cds: TANTE BANNERE, TANTI PADRUNE (SIE 01, 2000), SCAPULA’ (Folkclub Ethnosuoni / IRD, 2002) and MO’ SIENTE(Folkclub Ethnosuoni / IRD, 2006) distributed in Europe, North America and Asia and various compilations:TRIBU’ ITALICHE / CAMPANIA (EDT / WM 024 - 2002), LAS MUSICAS DE ITALIA (FNAC - 2003), FOLK GENETICAMENTE MODIFICATO (Stampa Alternativa, 2003), VOCI PER LA LIBERTA’ (Rockstar,2006) and IN TERRA ZAPATISTA (ROdU 001, 2008).
