It’s the road that one takes that holds the stories that they tell, and Sam Riddle has taken his own way. It’s not by accident that a one-time basketball star is one of the best performers to step on the country music scene. Musical talent also happens to run in Sam’s family. His father was a founding member of Montana’s well known Mission Mountain Wood Band; Sam’s uncle was a world class Broadway composer. From the word go, Sam lived the musician’s life, eating and breathing music, learning the nuances of showmanship that would one day be his trademark. After spending his formative years playing music and living in New York City, his father relocated the family back to their home state of Montana. Finding himself without an outlet for his creativity Sam used that energy to quickly become the best basketball player in the state. Sam was recruited by countless top college programs but he chose the University of Montana. After three years at the University Sam went on to play professionally overseas. All the while, through adversity and success, the piano was Sam’s escape and solace. His first love. In many ways, Sam’s life on the court was a substitute for music. His biggest thrill was always the connection he made with the crowd, a creative move that brought his audience to its feet. He was born to perform. And through sport, Sam would learn the most valuable lesson of his eventful life, one that informs every note and verse of his inspiring music today: Always. Be.
