Artist
Sam Kenny (Born in a south suburb of Chicago and resides in Grand Rapids, MI) See the Storm Through 2007 See the Storm Through is Sam Kenny’s first solo release and all of the songs were written by Sam alone. This solo piece is produced by Chicago based musician/producer Mike Kirkpatrick (The Drovers). Kenny and Kirkpatrick recruited many other Chicago , Michigan , and even New York , musicians for the project. On the tunes Southwest Chief and My Blue Son you can hear the fine percussion work of Mike Caskey (from Goran Ivanovic’s band Eastern Blok) who is a five-time Detroit Music Award and Downbeat Magazine Award winner. There’s more excellent drumming heard by Doug Brush who is an extremely active performer and teacher of percussion in Chicago and beyond. In spite of the full instrumentation of stings, percussion, guitar, trombones, eerie child singing, sampled crowd noise and the like, the song writing is the heart of the album; from a song about the life of an Amtrak train (The Southwest Chief) to feelings of incompetence in love (Slipping on the Ice) to a little girl’s thoughts at her mother’s funeral (Dear Mommy), there is a wonderfully diverse mix of perspectives and emotions revealed in these lyrics. Sam Kenny is currently recording his second album, World War I (again with Kirkpatrick). It's expected to release in 2012.
