Salem Place is a rock/indie/alternative band from Front Royal, Virginia. Formed in Spring 2007 by Colin Mason (guitar and lead vocals), Matt Mirus (guitar), and Joe Powell (drums), the band quickly fleshed out its roster to include brother Mike Powell (keyboards) and Rachel Shrader, who took over the bass from Joe, allowing him, when the group's prospective drummer proved a no-show after several practices, to step up to the drum kit himself. After a brief but fruitful stint with Salem Place, Shrader left the band to pursue other prospects. A new bass player has yet to be officially announced. Immediately upon its inception, Salem Place began its creative process, writing a number of songs over the course of its first few practices. During Summer 2007, the band entered the studio to begin work on its debut album, and the first fruits of its labours soon manifested themselves in the track "Child Take the Reins," which is available from their MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/salemplace) and Last.fm pages. The band does not have a release date set for its upcoming album, but will continue to post updates and new tracks as its production progresses. (PS. they are not Goth Rock, JSYK.)
