Sail was a popular amsterdam based group fronted by three women. joalice, maureen gray, and karen harvey with bassist jan jacobs, drummer kim haworth and sidemen neppy noya on percussion and hessel devries keyboards. karen, maureen and joalice had worked with many popular musicians and producers in the states, london and ibiza: steve winwood, dave mason, david crosby, stephen stills, george harrison, and many others. then in london ian samwell introduced kim haworth to the band . kim had been recording 'horse with no name' with the group america. sail was then complete and had much success performing with many guest musicians. van morrison , herbie hancock's band, dave mason, joined them on stage at the melkweg, paradiso. they performed double bills with sugar cubes, jan akerman, janis ian, don maclean, the everly brothers, the police, little feat, keith jarret, bill evans among others. on a tour in france sail met up with joia (formerly jess and james). after playing for a time together in belgium, the fusion worked and sail-joia was a fact. fernando and toni lameirinhas decided to move to amsterdam to join joalice, karen and kim and they became a very successful live band with sean bergin, denis vanhecke and ernst reyseger often joining in. the albums "sail-joia" and "mare' alta" were made with biram records and had success all over europe with a few hit singles, amsterdao, searching, and i believe in you. the live performances were a great success. the group went thru m
