Sage Meridien was a band formed in Tucson, Arizona in 1987, blending progressive metal, heavy metal, and power metal styles. Initially, after vocalist Troy Gray departed, guitarist Denny Seefieldt briefly led the band until Adrian Urbina joined in the summer of 1987, prompting the transition to Sage Meridien from the former group Allisan. Comprised mostly of ex-Allisan members—Richard McKinley (drums and percussion), Matt Federoff (bass, keyboards, and backing vocals), Denny Seefieldt (guitars and backing vocals), and Kelly Ritchotte (guitars, backing vocals)—Sage Meridien also included Adrian Urbina (lead vocals), Jason Lashbrook (drums and percussion), and Duane Hollis (bass). The band released a single demo tape in 1989 titled "Whispered Tales", drawing comparisons to the style of Fates Warning and Queensrÿche.
