Artist
Sage K has been creating and crooning since she was a teenie wee thing. She was influenced heavily as a child by an array of artists including Paul Simon, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and the Doors...to name a few. All that musical yumminess sunk in and by age six, Sage K was writing her first poems and singing them out...quietly to herself...in the shower. Her first introduction to the stage was in spoken word competitions and poetry readings. At age seventeen, after watching a teacher bravely play bluegrass tunes to a classroom of teens, she was inspired to learn guitar and took lessons from that very same teacher, Mr. Will Davis. It was also at this age that she was introduced to her first vocal coach, Gailene Grillo who helped lay the foundation of Sage's singing ability. Soon those poems became songs and the shower became the living room. Family and friends were the first subjected to the Sage K experience in it's infancy. Thankfully, much has improved! Years passed. Many vocal and guitar coaches later, Sage K developed her own unique style. In 2004, Sage K met her musical partner, best friend and soulmate; Drummer and percussionist Ivan Scheumack. At the time, Ivan was playing with the popular local band, Glimpse. Ivan, also known as 'The Human Metrinome', will play anything from buckets to buttocks... and he'll do it incredibly well. In 2005, Sage K and Ivan formed a trio with local bass player, Joshua Tree, called Sweet Dirt which stayed together until 2007.
