Of Japanese, Irish, and Panamanian descent, he has pioneered a unique sound he calls 'lo-fi hyphy,' blending the Bay Area's traditional hyphy energy with meditative, ambient production influenced by Japanese city pop, jazz, and natural soundscapes. Seiji Oda began producing and creating music in high school, initially working with software like Mixcraft 5. He gained early recognition through the 2018 viral track "Trapanese" with his younger brother lil ricefield, which accumulated over 13 million views and received remixes from Bay Area rappers DaBoii and Cash Kidd. In 2017, he released the collaborative R&B project GOLD with Oakland artist 247zé. His solo discography includes BLUE + (2020), a soft and introspective project, followed by lofi // HYPHY (2022), which formally established his signature genre fusion.
