Ryan Moses Lidstone was born in Vancouver B.C., where he currently resides. Growing up in a musical household (being the son of a bluegrass guitarist), he was introduced to music at an early age. Lidstone started playing the guitar at age ten and was quickly transfixed by its beauty. As adolescence reared its ugly head, our hero’s musical pursuit took a back seat, for a short while, to the more typical pursuits of a young man, though during this time he did spend hours playing punk and metal in the basements and garages of many friends. However once through high school the young explorer Lidstone picked up in his studies, and absolutely mesmerized by a Bill Frisell album lent to him by a friend, he turned his attention on jazz where his focus has remained for the past few years. In recent years Ryan has surround himself with the tutelage and guidance of great Vancouver guitarist Daryl Jahnke, Dave Sikula, and Gord Grdina, along with other studies under the great Brass/Piano player Alan Matheson and the exhuberent Drummer Kenneth Morrison, and always keeping a keen ear and eye on any and all musicians he is in a close proximity with. By not shying away from any one genre and trying hard to embrace them all Ryan’s music contains references from the repertoire of Donna Summers to Nels Cline.
