about

For her loyal, if slightly scarce, fandom, Ruubez is not just the moniker of Rugby-born, Huddersfield-raised YouTube personality and internet musician Ruby Rose Price, it is also an awkward spelling. Combining her influences – the melodious energy of pop punk, the storytelling of Oasis and the vocal talent of a vacuum cleaner stuck on a stray bit of carpet – she has carved out her own niche sound that some have taken to calling ‘mumble punk’. Ruubez’s first album, written over 2010/11, What’s The Point In Living When Life Turns It’s Back on You?, was recorded on Audacity with a cheap microphone and a run-down acoustic with only five strings. A re-recorded version in 2015 features a remastered and reimagined version of the original with layered walls of guitar and a full band set up., but the same original ‘mumbled’ songwriting. Having honed her talent making popular music covers on her YouTube channel, Ruubez is one of many LGBT artists carving a name for themselves in the underground – and underground she is; there surely is not a cave in the world deep enough with which to compare just how underground Ruubez’ music is.
