Artist
Over the years singer Han Buhrs has been writing scores and scores of warped songs, displaying his own, inimitable view of the music world. He previously performed them with bands like Nine Tobs, The Schismatics and Palinckx, and nowadays he unleashes his brainchildren onto the world in Rubatong. Musically the band chooses a crooked path that winds past blues, Americana, rock and improv without ever distinctly being any of the above. In addition to Buhrs's gritty, but also supple voice (in which echoes of Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits resound) the quartet features trump cards in René van Barneveld's slide guitar and the musical diversity of the (classically trained) percussionist Tatiana Koleva. The combination of the spooky bottleneck sound and the steely vibraphone is very special indeed. Luc Ex's melodious acoustic bass guitar is the binding factor, but it can also push and incite whenever necessary. In his lyrics Buhrs sometimes prefers surrealist images or word play, but he may also air political views, in Dutch, English, French or hilarious fake German. Tatiana Koleva - vibes, percussion; René van Barneveld - guitar ; Han Buhrs - vocals; Luc Ex - acouctic bassguitar.
