Rubato Jazz Project is a musical project founded in 2014 by students of the Honduras National School of Music. It is made up of alumni from that institution, as well as graduates from the music program at the UNAH(National Autonomous University of Honduras). Currently, its members are professionals dedicated to music performance and teaching. The project was born from the desire to contribute musically and culturally to the country, as well as to foster growth and learning in personal artistic development. It is influenced by the highly important and historic genre known as Jazz, which is the root of much of today’s music. These influences have been an essential pillar in shaping the band’s unique sound, while also preserving the importance of local culture and musical influences. The group’s repertoire is very diverse, ranging from the origins of the style—such as Dixieland—to swing, blues, New Orleans jazz, funk, smooth jazz, jazz fusion, pop, jazz ballads, bossa nova, bebop, and Latin jazz. In addition, the ensemble features a repertoire of completely original music, consisting of compositions by each of the band’s members. The project has had a positive impact on the country’s cultural development, establishing itself as one of the most influential and active bands in the jazz scene in recent years, according to an article published in 2018 on the hondurastips.hn portal.
