Artist
Described as the cute, quirkiness of Adam Green, mixed with the deliberate lo-fi aesthetics of musicians such as Daniel Johnston and Bill Callahan - Royken Zomerdijk blends simple, offbeat lyrics with acoustic guitar and a range of musical accompaniments, from shakers to glockenspiels, kazoos to cereal boxes and anything and everything he can utilise to create his sounds. Born in his bedroom, as a teenager in 2004 - Royken put his beaten up old acoustic guitar and 8 track tape recorder to use, creating songs about kids robbing ice cream vans, odes to llamas and love songs about iron chefs. His music has been played on the radio in both the United States and Australia, including being selected to be featured on Mike Watt's (The Stooges, Minutemen) radio show. Although his fan base was always small - they were dedicated - including one publican in Delaware who copied Royken's music to CD and handed them out to customers at his bar.
