Royal Forest is a psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas. They’ve received comparisons to Grandaddy, the Flaming Lips, and Spoon from such entities as MAGNET Magazine, NPR, and Flagpole Magazine. The band formed as Loxsly in 2004, and in 2010 rechristened themselves Royal Forest with the release of a self-titled EP (which is available for free download at http://royalforest.bandcamp.com/). They’ve played dozens of shows throughout Texas, a handful of U.S. tours, and showcased at the CMJ Music Marathon (2009), the SXSW music festival (2007, 08, 09, 10, 11), and Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest (2010). Recent tracks like “Civilwarland” and “Courtesy in Decline” branch into harder-hitting guitar rock that builds upon the sound they’ve become known for: Syncopated snares, layers of warmth, wistful vox, and heady harmonies.
