Chavarría Muqru, Roque Jacinto de. Sucre (formerly La Plata) (Bolivia), 1688 – 8.XII.1719. Musician, composer. Roque Jacinto de Chavarría Muqru was the out-of-wedlock son of a Creole and a mestizo. At the age of seven he began as a child of six in the musical chapel of the cathedral of La Plata, under the direction of the great Spanish musician Juan de Araujo (or Arauxo). With extraordinary liveliness for music, he joined the musical chapel as an instrumentalist, being named interim harpist and bass player. It is almost certain that, like some other precocious musicians of cathedral chapels, he was ordained as a priest, prior dispensation for his illegitimate origin; The assumption of C. Seoane (2002) is correct, who points to the year 1712 as the year of his ordination, since he was then twenty-four years old, enough to be ordained. Since then he rose rapidly in his career, devoting himself to the composition of sacred music, to the point that, when he died in 1719, seven years later, he left a work of almost fifty titles, many of them signed, and others attributed by affinity. of his characteristic style. Fortunately, these handwritten scores are preserved today in the National Archives of Bolivia. It is known that his compositions were performed long after his death.
