Although a new band, Romeo Moon is brimming with a combined musical experience and artistic wisdom that spans several decades. Forming as a collective and creative outlet for a group of close friends, the band first started playing together in late 2013, jamming frequently in many of the glorious studios that rattle Melbourne’s inner suburbs. Just four months on, they had their debut EP ‘Wander’, written, recorded and ready for pressing. Founded by Kevin Orr, guitarist and vocalist, Romeo Moon represents a shared love of music, friendship and positivity. Indeed, the band epitomises the humble notion of making music for nothing more than a chance to explore artistic latitudes, unfettered by convention. Tracked and mixed by Simon Cotter (Courtney Barnett, Yolke) at the Bakehouse Studio in Fitzroy, Melbourne, ‘Wander’ delicately captures the band’s raw mood and musical spontaneity, by utilising nostalgic recording techniques and vintage instruments. Through tracking songs in their entirety, and with minimal editing, Romeo Moon have created an inspired indie rock record that unfolds like an auditory photograph, revealing warmth, character and beautiful blemishes. In a time where everything seems preoccupied in predicting the successful result of an artistic endeavour, Romeo Moon remind us of the importance of process over outcome. Romeo Moon’s debut EP ‘Wander’ is available on Bandcamp, iTunes and on vinyl. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-S
