1999-2003 Evan- guitar/vocals, Gus- drums, Jeremy- bass Toronto based Rockets Red Glare have been perfecting their distinct style of minimal bass-driven hardcore since 1999. Weaned on the suburban punk scene of the mid '90's, the members played in various fledging math rock units, including the fairly well documented Blake. Having thrice toured Eastern Canada and inflitrated the U.S. for numerous campaigns, RRG released a limited pressing, 2 song 7" on T.O. label Die!venom. They adhere fiercely to the rigorous standards they impose not only on themselves, but also on the surrounding independent music community. RRG have sought out new ways to find meaningful expression amidst a scene whose vital arteries have collapsed from its addiction to the transiet notion of 'hip'. Having drawn comparisons to the angular post-punk of Mission of Burma, Shellac, and Slint, their approach to style leans equally on the plodding dirge-core of bands like Neurosis and Cerberus Shoal. In every way, RRG attempt to control the infinitely subtle balance of tension and release while navigating through enormous columns of sound. Anchored by a rhythmic fulcrum of punishing drum patterns and jagged bass melodies, the pulse is blanketed underneath a dissonant fabric of guitar textures that trademarks their approach to form.
