Artist
Scottish composer; b. 1487; d. after 1546. He was a Monk of Scone Abbey. He developed a melismatic style of composition, and wrote masses on the medieval song "L/Homme arme" and many motets, one of them in 19 independent parts. He is regarded as an equal of Dunstable in melodic and rhythmic excellence. Vol. 1 of his collected works was publ. by the American Inst. of Musicology, ed. by Denis Stevens, in 1959.
