Roaring Aurora is a one woman production from Baltimore, MD that has sometimes featured some key instrumentalists from other Baltimore bands including the Make-Believes, Blakk Sweat, Kid Tiger, and Three Sheets. Roaring Aurora is the musical moniker for April Valencik, a Baltimore born and Peabody Prepatory trained vocalist. She also plays piano and is a beginner student of the celtic harp, drums, and guitar. Other instruments that make appearances on her albums include the autoharp, Rhodes organ, cardboard box drums, the melodica (melody-horn), harmonica, saxophone (not played by April), air organ, mandolin, slide guitar, and percussion instruments. April has played in and is a key member of Paper Rockets (co-contributors to the Ladyz in Noiz compilation disc), Coconut Herd, and her latest music project with co-Baltimore resident, Matt Leibensperger, The Great Divorce. She has toyed around with a variety of musical styles and genres, but most of her music is within the realm of experimental folk and pop. April is also interested in the textures of the human voice and improvisation, and recorded her first album A Capella, completing one line of vocals, then rewinding and recording the next without listening to the first track. She recorded as many as 26 vocal tracks per song.
